The Anza colonizing expedition arrived at San Luis Obispo mission, where a shed served as a church. Font noted arriving at this mission an adjoining habitation for "...converted girls, whom they call nuns. " The wife of a resident soldier taught them to "...to sew and keep clean; and they already do so very nicely, as if they were little Spaniards." |
